VLIR-UOS awards scholarships to students from Africa, Asia and Latin-America to follow a training or master programme at a Dutch speaking university or university college in Belgium. The eligible training or master programmes are taught in English. They are designed for people in positions of responsibility in civil society.
The scholarships cover all related expenses. For application, please visit the website of the training or master programme. You can apply for a scholarship from October 2012 (master programmes) or November 2012 (master programmes organised at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven and all training programmes). The deadline for application for the master programmes: 1 February 2013.
VLIR-UOS enables innovative partnerships between universities and university colleges in Flanders and in developing countries. VLIR-UOS aims to find sustainable responses to global challenges and local needs.
You can apply for a scholarship if you meet the following requisites:
  • You are a resident AND national of one of the countries on the country list (not necessarily the same country for residence and nationality). Please note that candidates must reside in one of these countries at the moment of application.
  • You are not older than 40 years* if you apply for a scholarship to follow a master programme. Or you are not older than 45 years* if you apply for a scholarship to follow a training programme. (* on 1 January 2012)
  • You have the required English proficiency. You need a proof of at least 1 year of comprehensive English-based instruction at a university or recognized equivalent. If not, a TOEFL test is required with a minimum total score of 550 on the paper based test (PBT), or 79 on an internet based test (IBT); or an IELTS test with a minimum overall band score of 6,5; or a proof of another test of similar level as TOEFLE or IELTS.
  • Professional experience and employment perspectives are not required for a master programme, but they can be a competitive advantage for selection, depending on the programme. Present employment or reintegration perspectives are required for a training programme. The candidate must be currently employed or have a written (future) employer’s guarantee of (re)integration in an employment where the acquired knowledge and skills will be immediately applicable.
  • Earlier applications and scholarships: You do not apply for more than one VLIR-UOS scholarship a year. You have never received a master scholarship funded by the Belgian government before. You are only admissible for a training programme scholarship if you have not received a VLIR-UOS scholarship for a training programme before.
  • Only for employees of a university that currently receives support from VLIR-UOS through the IUC programme or OI programme: you need a letter from the IUC or OI coordinator stating that your department is not involved in IUC or OI. Contact the programme manager in the IUC or OI office at your university for further information.

The Scholarship was established in 2011 and is funded by alumni of the Faculty of Engineering who studied at The University of Auckland under the Colombo Plan, together with other donors.
The main purpose of the Scholarship is to assist international students who are citizens of Colombo Plan member countries, to study undergraduate or postgraduate engineering programmes at The University of Auckland.
Selection process:
  • Full-time enrolment in a Bachelor of Engineering, Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) or any postgraduate degree programme in the Faculty of Engineering.
  • The Scholarship will be awarded to an international student who is a citizen of one of the following countries: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, South Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Maldives, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, the United States of America and Vietnam.
How do students apply?
Applications by way of a form and CV close with the Scholarships Office on 31 March in the year of the award.
Decision makers
The Scholarship will be awarded by the University of Auckland Council on the recommendation of a Selection Committee comprising the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering (or nominee), the Deputy Dean of Engineering (or nominee) and an academic from the Faculty of Engineering appointed by the Dean.
How and when do students learn of the decision?
Approximately six weeks after closing date by letter.
Additional Information
Although Australia is a member country of the Colombo Plan, Australian citizens do not have international student status in New Zealand and so are not eligible to apply for this scholarship.

The International Climate Protection Fellowships enable prospective leaders to conduct a research-related project of their own choice during a one-year stay in Germany. Submit an application if you are a prospective leader from a non-European threshold or developing country working in the field of climate protection and resource conservation in academia, business or administration in your country. Applicants must provide a clearly visible leadership potential either by experience in a first leadership position or be able to provide appropriate references. They must also have completed their first university degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent academic degree) less than 12 years prior to the start of the fellowship (1 September 2013) with outstanding results. They must also have extensive professional experience in a leadership role (at least 48 months at the time of application) or hold a further academic or professional qualification. Furthermore, they are expected to have gained initial practical experience through involvement in projects related to climate protection and resource conservation. The fellowship will enable the recipients to conduct a research-related project of their own choice with hosts in Germany whom they are free to choose themselves.
The programme, which is being funded under the International Climate Initiative by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety, includes a preparatory intensive language course in Germany, a several-week introductory seminar, a several-day training course and a final meeting in Berlin. These activities will enable you to gain additional insights into academic, social, cultural, economic and political life in Germany.
In addition to applicants who have been trained in the natural and engineering sciences, candidates who have been engaged in legal, economic and societal issues relating to climate change are encouraged to apply for this programme. The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation is granting up to 15 International Climate Protection Fellowships to prospective leaders from the countries named. The call is subject to the approval of sufficient financial means to the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.
Requirements
  1. First academic degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent), completed less than 12 years prior to the start of the fellowship (1. September 2013);
  2. Extensive professional experience in a leadership role (at least 48 months at the time of application) in the field of climate protection and resource conservation or a further academic or professional qualification;
  3. Initial practical experience (at least 12 months at the time of application) through involvement in projects related to climate protection and resource conservation (possibly already during studies);
  4. Leadership potential demonstrated by initial experience in leadership positions and/or appropriate references (see no. 8);
  5. A detailed statement by a host in Germany, including a confirmation of support; details of the proposed project must be discussed with the prospective host prior to application;
  6. Citizenship of a non-European threshold or developing country which is also the fellow’s habitual abode and place of work;
  7. Very good knowledge of English and/or German, documented by appropriate language certificates;
  8. Two to three expert references by individuals qualified to comment on the candidate’s professional, personal and, if applicable, academic eligibility and his / her leadership potential.

A number of other Scholarships are available from the University of Wales, Newport. Students applying for September 2012 or January 2013 entry are eligible to apply for these awards.
Students wishing to apply for these scholarships need to download and complete the Scholarship Application Form. A limited number of Scholarships are available and will be awarded to students on the basis of outstanding achievement. Categories you may wish to consider applying under are:
  • Academic
  • Social or Cultural: including community projects or voluntary work
  • Outstanding Artistic Achievement
The application form requires you to undertake a 500-700 word piece of work supporting your application. Please note that applications must be fully completed and your supporting statement must be within the word limit.
Scholarships are available for both undergraduate and postgraduate applicants and awards are made for the academic year 2012/2013 (or for the duration of your course). Scholarships of £1,000 per year will be awarded and the scholarship award will be deducted from your annual tuition fee. A maximum of 10 undergraduate and 5 postgraduate scholarship awards will be made for each intake (September 2012 and January 2013).
Scholarships will be awarded by the Scholarship Committee based upon merit through consideration of a completed Scholarship Application Form. These awards will be made at the beginning of the each semester and the decision by the Scholarship Committee is final.
Applicants must hold a Visa Letter/CAS for a taught undergraduate or postgraduate course at the University and have firmly accepted their offer before submitting an application.
Conditional offer holders may apply but will only be considered for the scholarship if all conditions have been met before the deadline date.

The International Shari’ah Research Academy for Islamic Finance (ISRA) invites qualified students with excellent academic achievements and active in co-curricular activities to apply for the Shari’ah Scholarship Award (SA) to pursue their higher education at either local or overseas universities. The Shari’ah Scholarship Award is part of the Fund for Shari’ah Scholars in Islamic Finance, which was established to enhance knowledge, research, talents, and intellectual discourse in the field of Shari’ah. The Fund represents Bank Negara Malaysia‘s commitment to strengthen the development of the Islamic financial industry.
FIELD OF STUDY
  1. Postgraduate (Master or Doctorate) in Shariah or Islamic finance studies at recognized institutions of higher learning;
  2. Undergraduate studies at recognized institutions of higher learning in the field of Shari’ah with a double degree or a minor in one of the following disciplines:
    • Islamic banking;
    • Conventional banking;
    • Accounting;
    • Law;
    • Economics;
    • Finance;
    • Management; or
    • other related fields appropriate to the development of the Islamic financial industry.
  3. CIFP, only for those with Shariah background.
ELIGIBILITY
  1. The scholarship is open to citizens of all countries.
  2. Applicants have to secured admission at a recognized institution of higher learning. Applicants are required to pursue either a Bachelor, CIFP , Master or Doctorate programme, as defined above, in a fulltime programme.
  3. For a postgraduate application, applicants are required to have a CGPA of at least 3.5 or its equivalent.
  4. For an undergraduate application, applicants are required to have a CGPA of at least 3.3 or its equivalent (for the first semester result).
  5. Current students enrolled in the programmes specified above may also apply for the scholarship.
  6. Applicants should not be in receipt of any other scholarship award.

This research grant is intended to provide U.S. research opportunities for doctoral candidates who are in the final stages of writing their dissertation at an Indonesian University, and are also serving as faculty members at any private or state higher education institutions. The grant duration is for a period of four months. The applicant should have a minimum ITP TOEFL score of 525 or IELTS 5.5 or IBT TOEFL score of 70/71 to participate in this program. This international educational exchange program enables individuals to study at a community college in the United States to develop professional skills.
Eligible fields are Business Management and Administration; Tourism and Hospitality Management; Early Childhood Education, including Nursing; Media; Information Technology; Agriculture; and Engineering Science. (Specific fields of interest can be found on the last page of the CCIP application form).
ELIGIBILITY
To apply to the program, candidates must:
  • Have completed a secondary school education or D1/D2/D3 or S1
  • Preference will be given to high school graduates
  • Applicants with a Bachelor’s degree are eligible, if they are applying in a field different from the field of their degree and have relevant work experience in the field for which they are applying.
  • Applicants with MA or PhD degrees are not eligible to participate.
  • Have relevant work experience in the field in which they are applying;
  • Have English language skills that provide a basis for enrolling in academic coursework;
  • Submit a complete application form;

Preference will be given to applicants who serve or plan to serve as faculty members of state and private institutions of higher education in Indonesia and have not previously received any Fulbright scholarship. However, anyone who meet the program’s requirements are also welcomed to apply.
M.S. Applicants must possess:

Nanyang Technological University (NTU) is a research-intensive university with globally acknowledged strengths in science and engineering. The Nanyang President’s Graduate Scholarship (NPGS) is a competitive and prestigious scholarship scheme designed to encourage outstanding graduates or final-year students to take their first step towards a leading research career by studying for a doctoral degree programme (PhD) at the Nanyang Technological University (NTU), one of Asia’s leading research universities. Funding will be provided for up to 4 years for NPGS awardees.
Number of awards available
Up to 30 NPGS awards will be made available in each Academic Year. Successful candidates will be known as Nanyang President’s Graduate Scholars.
Minimum qualifications
To qualify for a NPGS award, you must have a First Class Honours degree or equivalent at Bachelor’s level and applicants should also demonstrate excellent research abilities. The PhD research will be in any topic agreed between you and your chosen NTU supervisor within the research activities of NTU. At the time of application, if you have not yet completed your undergraduate degree programme, you will need to furnish documentation from your university that you are on track to get a First Class Honours degree or equivalent. Failure to do so will disqualify you from the NPGS award, in which case you may be considered for other NTU PhD research scholarships, subject to meeting the selection criteria.
Qualification
During the first year, you will be expected to take relevant courses and to work towards passing the qualifying examination. In the event that this qualification is not met, there will be no conversion to a Masters degree for the NPGS awardees.
Stipend and allowances
The NPGS award terms are:
  1. Monthly stipend of S$3200
  2. Full support of tuition fees
  3. Conference allowance for two major overseas conferences in the 4-year period
  4. One-time IT allowance of S$1500
  5. Annual grant of S$500 for journal subscription or book purchase
  6. Thesis preparation allowance
  7. Priority for subsidised campus accommodation
Teaching
Upon passing the qualifying examination, NPGS awardees will be expected to undertake some undergraduate teaching (up to a limit of 10 hours per week). Awardees will be reimbursed if their teaching hours exceed what is required by the framework of their PhD training. Undergraduate teaching contributions will demand a high level of English language proficiency and you may be required to undertake English language courses as necessary in your first year.
Nationality
There is no restriction as to the nationality of candidates but, all things being equal preference will be given to Singapore Citizens and Singapore Permanent Residents.
